How to Identify B 12 Deficiency Symptoms

without comments

What is B12 Deficiency?

B12 deficiency causing reactions of anemia, a shortage of vitamin B12 can also interfere with the nerves, and so affect the senses of touch and pain. In adults, blood cells are produced by red bone marrow, which is found inside the centre of the hips, ribs, breastbone and backbone, in addition the ends of long bones such as the thigh. Red blood cells live for around 120 days before they are broken down and replaced, as part of a normal renewal process.

Vitamin B12 is a vital ingredient in DNA, the chemical that carries genetic information for new cells. It’s found in meat and animal products but not in vegetables. You need vitamin B12 to produce red blood cells and for maintaining healthy nerves.

What are the symptoms of B12 deficiency?

The symptoms of B12 deficiency (anemia) include:

breathlessness

feeling very tired

dizziness

feeling very cold all the time

a rapid, weak pulse

palpitations

headaches

Persons with vitamin B12-deficiency anemia may also look pale or jaundiced (yellow-tinged skin and eyes). As well as the symptoms of anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency may cause neurological symptoms because of inflammation of the nerves (neuritis). This is called vitamin B12 neuropathy. It disturbs movement and sensation, especially in the legs, and causes numbness or pins and needles. It can also result in confusion, depression, poor concentration and forgetfulness.

What are the causes of Vitamin B12 deficiency?

There are numerous different causes of anemia. A deficiency of vitamin B12 in your diet is just one possible cause. Other nutrients that you need to produce red blood cells include iron and folate (folic acid). A shortage of these in the diet can also result in anemia.

Most people who develop vitamin B12-deficiency anemia can’t produce enough of a substance called intrinsic factor in their stomach. This intrinsic factor is needed for vitamin B12 to be absorbed from food and drink. This is a condition called pernicious anemia. Pernicious anemia is an autoimmune illness. Normally, antibodies manufactured by the body’s immune system fight foreign substances such as viruses and bacteria. With autoimmune conditions, the immune system mistakes the person’s own tissue as foreign and attacks it instead.

With pernicious anemia, antibodies attack the cells in the stomach that form intrinsic factor. The exact cause of pernicious anemia isn’t known. Its most common in people aged over 60. It affects women more than men, and is more common in people with blue eyes, early graying hair and blood group A.

Healthy Cardiac Diet

without comments

Cardiac diets are considerably used and prescribed in most hospitals for patients with heart disease, hypertension, myocardial infarction, hyperlipidemia, and dyslipidemia. A cardiac diet may be employed as a part of a health regimen to either treat or prevent cardiovascular disease. It will normallyinclude foods that are classified as healthy because of their overwhelming nutritional advantages.

A cardiac diet will essentially aim to increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and fibre while decreasing the consumption of fats and sodium which have both been prominently associated with the development of heart disease. This health plan is often altered in the long-term based on the goals of the diet or the patient’s diagnosis. After a patient has been treated using this diet recommendation he or she will usually be referred to a dietician who will help him or her to maintain this diet.

Generally a cardiac or “heart healthy” diet as it has been called may be administered with the objective of inhibiting the intake of fat, cholesterol, sodium, and sometimes caffeine. In most instances, it will follow the guidelines of the National Cholesterol Education Program which has provided the following recommendations:

Fiber 20-30 grams per day.

Trans fat “kept at a low intake.”

Carbohydrates 50-60% of daily calories.

Total fat 25-35% of daily calories.

Saturated fat less than 7% of daily calories.

Monounsaturated fats up to 20% of daily calories.

Polyunsaturated fats up to 10% of daily calories.

Cholesterol less than 200 milligrams per day.

Dietary fats, specifically saturated and trans fats, may actually contribute to elevating an individual’s overall cholesterol levels, low-density lipoproteins (LDL), and triglycerides which can encourage the development and accumulation of plaque within the blood vessel walls. This build-up of plaque will ultimately lead to a reduction in the size of the blood vessel lumen. Saturated fats are chiefly found in animal products. This kind of fat has been associated with an increase of low-density lipoprotein levels (LDL), which are strongly correlated with a heightened risk of heart disease. Unsaturated fats differ from saturated fats because they have double bonds. They can be substituted in place of saturated fats and are preferred because they help lower the LDL levels. Cardiac diets are also low sodium diets. Sodium has been found to elevate blood pressure, and has an additional negative effect on the diuretic properties of certain medications. Sodium is normally restricted to 2,000-4,000 mg per day, in relation to the patients diagnosis and medical regimen. Many cardiac diets do not only inhibit sodium and fats but also caffeine. This is enacted because caffeine is a stimulant and may affect the deteriorated condition of the heart.

Basically a cardiac diet considers both the advantages of restricting certain types of foods as well as increasing the consumption of healthy foods and nutrients.

Bee Sting Treatment in an Easy Way

without comments

Bee stings are be extremely agonizing and in a few instances, even deadly. Bees inject poison from a stinger under the skin of the person they sting. Unlike wasps that have stingers that withdraw after stinging, bees have barbed stingers that remain in the skin. The barb has a venom sack attached that can continue to pump poison for up to 3 minutes if it is not taken out. Roughly 3% of the persons stung by bees experience an allergic reaction and just around 0.8% have an allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis.

Individuals who are not allergic to bee stings will experience swelling and itching at and surrounding the area they were stung. The skin will turn red and very painful. These reactions may continue for up to one week.

If there is an allergic reaction, hives, redness and inflammation can form all over the body. sufferers can also experience swelling, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and dizziness.

Persons suffering from an anaphylactic reaction may experience, difficulty breathing, and a decrease in blood pressure that will lead to shock if not treated immediately. 50 persons die annually from such reactions to bee stings. Anaphylactic reactions will arise within a few minutes of the actual sting. If someone who is allergic is stung more than once, their reaction will worsen each time.

What to do if you are stung by a bee:

1.Get away from the area where you were stung as bee stings release pheromones that cause other bees that are close by to attack.

2.Call an emergency medical service if you know you are allergic to bee stings or if you experience any of the indications described in persons having an allergic reaction. Watch all victims closely for indications of anaphylaxis

3.Check whether the stinger is still in your skin and take it out – it will look like a small black dot. It is recommended that you use a flat object such as a credit card to remove the stinger as pinching may cause more poison to enter the victim. The more quickly the bee stinger is taken out, the less severe the reaction may be.

4.Place ice on the sting to reduce swelling.

5.Clean the area and apply hydrocortisone cream to lessen the severity of the reaction. It is suggested that a combination of baking soda and water can also be used. Either of these will break down the poison**

6.Take an antihistamine, use calamine lotion and painkillers to stop itching and inflammation

**Bee venom is acidic, the combination of baking soda and H2O is meant to neutralize the venom. Neutralization is unlikely because the venom is beneath the skin and in the tissues of the body and cannot be affected by an alkaline solution is placed on the surface of the skin.

How to Know Your Blood Alcohol Levels

without comments

An exorbitant intake of alcoholic content is responsible for the increase in a persons blood alcohol level. For a majority of people who visit parties liquor is considered as a needed component for enjoyment. Blood alcohol content is a measurement used to detect how much liquor content is in a person’s blood stream. It is measured in percentages starting from 0.01 up to 0.40 or more. Most persons show some level of intoxication at 0.03 percent. Once blood content has arrived at 0.35 percent the possibility of casualty and unconsciousness increases. First time users are also more susceptible to becoming comatose with as little as 15 percent. This has lead to a lot of today’s road accidents as well as criminal offenses.

From the early 1900s there have been many alcohol exclusion laws passed to discourage persons from drinking. The limits under which you can drive while drunk may vary from state to state. Blood alcohol content below 0.08 percent in the United States is considered to be unlawful and individuals who are caught can encounter serious criminal charges. Women generally are more prone to become intoxicated, so a woman’s blood alcohol level will rise much faster than that of men. People who are heavier in size, are less prone to get intoxicated, they will have half the blood alcohol content versus someone else half their size although they drink the same quantity of liquor. A person who is suspected to be under the influence of alcohol especially when driving are tested with a device called a breathalyzer. Contents of saliva, urine or blood can also be used to test your blood alcohol level.

There are many ways to lessen your chances of getting intoxicated. The brand of alcohol you consume as and the amount you drink at a time can increase your chances of becoming drunk. Alcohol bottles provide the details on the level of alcoholic content provided in each serving displayed as a percentage of the alcohol volume. Some alcoholic beverages have much more alcoholic content than others, so you should lessen those that have a high content. For instance wine generally has a alcohol content ranging from 6 – 14 percent. Hard liquors like whiskey, tequila, vodka and rum, usually have an alcohol content of about 40 percent. The alcohol percentage is documentated as half of the proof. ‘Liqueurs’ have an alcoholic level that ranges from 15 – 30 percent or even higher. Normal packaged beer on average has an alcohol content of about 5 percent by volume while light beer is approximately 4 percent alcohol. Other strong specialty beers and malt liquors may contain alcohol contents up to 8 and 10 percent. When drinking mixed liquor attempt to limit your consumption for each portion, as they have a variety of different liquors with different alcoholic contents, which you may not be aware of that can get you under the influence quickly. Also beware of cognacs work as a ‘creepers’. These drinks don’t show the effects of the alcohol while drinking but rather much later on.

Over the years there have been many DWI books written to inform persons about the seriousness of becoming intoxicated and driving under the influence of liquor and ways to avoid this ordeal. These books aim to educate persons about the implications of drinking not only in connection to a legal perspective but also in regards to their physical health.

Most DWI books also talks about what legal measures you should take if you are arrested with simplified terminologies that provide details of certain procedures and techniques to safeguard yourself in a potential DUI case including how to employ a certified DUI attorneys. It is created so that the average persons is capable of comprehending some of the court procedures associated with DWUI|DUI so they are more able to legally defend themselves. At times there are even depictions of persons who have previously been in DUI cases, who have avoided conviction.

Braid Fishing Line

without comments

A braiding fishing line is one of the earliest brands of fishing lines which is still in popular use up to this time because of its exceptionally strength. This brand of fishing line is made from merging different synthetic materials formed together. Initially braid lines were made from natural materials until recent years when the makers began to combine the synthetic fibers such as Micro-dyneema, Spectra and Dacron. These fibers helps to produce a fishing line that has more benefits than that of the typical fishing line manufactured from monofilament components and is often called a super line. This feature has resulted in it becoming even more popular over the past few years and have developed many different quality make to choose from such as spiderwire, powerpro and whiplash.

The toughness of the braid fishing line makes it very good resistant agent to the abrasion that causes other fishing lines to go out of use quickly and break so it lasts much longer than the regular fishing line. They also do not stretch as much as other lines, so they are much more sensitive and this allows an angler to feel the slightest bites from a fish. Most fishers who use them have to use scissors to cut them instead of clippers. Braided lines can be successfully used on any kind of fishing reel and are most well known as great lines for bait casting spools, particular for trolling. If you use it make sure that your fishing rod can properly handle it.

Braided lines are created with a tinier diameter, so they are very bendy and don’t contain any spool recall like that of monofilament lines that means the cord is not able to coil when it comes off the reel. Since they drift so well, they are ideal lines for top water baits. They also have very little stretch so that the fish lure can be easily dragged away from a fish.  However, you must setup a drag set so that a fish is not able to rip the hooks out of its mouth if it tries to makes a strong escape right at the boat. Braid fishing lines work particularly excellent in certain fishing situations but they still do contain some drawbacks that can sometimes outweight the advantages.

Sometimes the toughness of braided lines can also turn into a disadvantage. A careless fisherman can cut his fingers on these line as if he pulls the line too hard when trying to pull it free from being caught in a tree or rock. Furthermore braided lines are a lot more costly than other types of fishing lines because the production procedures are a lot more expensive than that of monofilament lines so this expense is given to the consumer and ends up being more costly than the other brands.

On average braided lines are more opaque in the water than other lines which makes it more visible to the fishes so most fishermen do not like to use it in plain waters because it is easier to see it can easily scare the fish, mainly on finesse baits where you are attempting to attract a fish to bite a lure they can see for an extended time. Fishermen have however, found a solution for this by connecting a monofilament at the end of the braided fishing line to use as a leader to minimize the high visibility of the braided fishing line.

All About Booking Airline Tickets

without comments

The capability to book airline tickets has evolved greatly along the timeline of aviation from a slower manual task to an electronic operation with minimal manpower needed. Though this may seem like a disadvantage to workers it has opened the doors for internal shifting within the airline business and increased effectiveness with the reservation structure leading to in real-time display of flight data which helps both the airline and the passengers.

Since the advances in technology permits the airline business a larger amount of information about seating reservations and times, amendments can be made last-minute for any flight shortly before boarding but in our economy today, how should we go on when ticket prices change and occasionally traveling is such a bother? To move inside the confines of the organization and acquire affordable tickets one has to have a knowledge of the options that are available now and how to let those options work for him/her.

Now we understand that whenever we are searching for something “affordable” we are really just seeking for the thing or service with the lowest cost that will still give at minimum suitable service, so here are some tips to helping you locate the cheapest air tickets in circulation at present.

For starters, this is not the 1950’s and early 1960’s when the reception scheme was monitored by people at a central building although the data is still run and monitored by actual people, the process is almost completely computerized. Updates are instantaneous and you never again are required to call ahead and go into broad call queues or join painfully extensive lines to discover which flights are headed where you desire to go – the solution is frequently just a few clicks away.

There are numerous websites on the internet that offer services comparing the tariffs of numerous airlines and if you want to investigate for yourself you can even go to the various airlines’ websites to monitor their booking options and availabilities for a myriad of destinations. For the individual with time to spare looking through the different sites for the differing airlines may not be such a bad idea however, for someone who does not have that amount of time a company that does it all and displays the findings on a single page is more suited.

Commonly advertised companies such as Hotwire and Priceline allow you the choice to view listed prices or bid on your personal rate if you prefer. Hotwire will search varying airline availabilities and give you a menu to choose from, while Priceline offers you to name a price and wait to find out if the airline you choose accepts your set price.

Despite of the route you select, factors affecting pricing include the flexibility of your agenda and how seriously you need a flight. Reservations needed in less than seven days are commonly much more pricy, conversely reservations prepared weeks or months in advance are chiefly less expensive. An airline might also has a cheap seat obtainable if a passenger cancels and nobody fills the slot.

Mucus in Stool – What Causes It?

without comments

Mucus is a clear, jelly-like element usually of a whitish or yellowish colour. It generally shows that it has trapped air inside it. The inward epithelial lining of the large intestine is responsible for making mucus. Its purpose is to function as lubricant by making the inner lining of the intestine very smooth and thus aid in the pagssage of stool to the anus.

The presence of small mucus in stool is a very usual and natural occurrence. However, if the amount of mucus in the stool increases, it can be a symptom of some other medical condition and thus, medical attention should be sought.

There are various conditions which result in mucus appearing in stools. Some of these conditions are discussed below:

1. Ulcerative colitis

This is when the mucus membrane of the epithelial lining of the large intestine becomes irritated and result in ulcers developing. Due to the presence of this irritation and ulcers in the lining of the intestine, the production of mucus will take place and is therefore passed out in stools.

2. Bacterial Infection

Certain amounts of bacteria are naturally present in the intestine to smooth the process of digestion. When strange particles are introduced, the result is an disparity in the ordinary amounts of bacteria which lead to bacterial infection. Mucus is then increased in the stool.

3. Bowel Obstruction

This cause for mucus in the stool is very regular. It is usually the result of low water consumption, gastric hormone imbalance and increased yeast formation, which in turn causes constipation. Thus, the need for increased production of mucus leads to an increase in its presence in stools.

4. Internal hemorrhoids

These are caused by straining and are common causes of mucus in stools.

5. Food intolerances

The malabsorption of fructose, lactose intolerances and food aversions can result in mucus in stools.

6. Diverticulitis

This happens when an inflamed pouch emerge in the colon and it is a condition that can lead to mucus in stools.

7. Colon polyps

Mucus in stools can be caused by colon tumors being present in the colon. The mucus is a sign that they are present.

Other possible causes are:

Crohn’s Disease – inflammation of the lining of the intestine

Intestinal parasites especially giardia ( a parasite which lives in the gut)

Cystic fibrosis – a inherited disease which causes hormones to discharge large amounts of thick mucus.

There are no specific cures for mucus in stools as most times the condition returns to normal on its own. There are various ways in which the situation can be enhanced, so long as there are no primary conditions present. Some are:

By including specific nutritional supplements.

Increasing the consumption of water.

By taking herbal demulcent. This may be prepared by adding a teaspoon of finely ground flaxseed to a cup of hot water, and leave to marinate overnight.

If the situation does not get better over a long period of time, antibiotics may be prescribed.

Molle Vest – How It Works?

without comments

MOLLE is an acronym which means Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. It is the current load-bearing system that is used by the United States Army. The MOLLE system is a replacement to the ALICE (All-purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment) system. It was introduced in 1997 but its use was not prevalent until after the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001.

The MOLLE system is a completely combined which is made up of a load bearing vest along with butt pack, main ruck that has bearable pouches and also a partition to carry a sleeping bag. The load bearing vest is worn continuously and contains pockets to carry hand grenade or magazine. There is a device that is connected to the vest which is created to facilitate the peripheral frame of the main ruck to attach to the waist belt on the vest. This is very useful in shifting the load from the shoulders to the hips in order to facilitate easier carrying and less fatique. One of the main parts of the MOLLE system is the nylon mesh vest. This vest is fitted with detachable pockets that can be used to facilitate the different carrying needs that are faced in the military. The MOLLE has different modifications so much so that each partner of a squad has one to fit his particular needs.

The MOLLE system has advanced in load-carrying abilities. It has a new suspension system along with heavily-padded, adjustable shoulder straps to make carrying easier and more comfortable. The waist belt is also adjustable to different lengths so that more weight is concentrated at the shoulders and the hips. The MOLLE has a Fighting Load Carrier (FLC) which increases the amount of ammunition a soldier can carry and is designed in such a way that the weight is spread over the torso. Three flap pockets on the FLC can each carry two 30-round magazines. There are also two canteen pouches. One benefit that the MOLLE system has over the ALICE system is the lack of the metal clips or hooks. These can make carrying a lot more complicated as they sometimes dig into the soldier’s skin. The vest on the MOLLE also comes with a H-Harness in the back which reduces the accumulation of heat.

All the other large pouches on the MOLLE have D-rings for carrying them with a sling and are structured with plastic windows that are invisible so soldiers do not have to mark their individual MOLLE. The system has two six-foot straps used to carry large objects and also a repair kit with supplies for any simple repairs. Every MOLLE comes with a tube to provide water on the move.

Many changes have been made to some sections of the original MOLLE and have led to the development of MOLLE II. MOLLE equipment is available from the US Calvary Store, Amazon and other suppliers of military equipment.
