A web directory contains useful links to web pages categorized by industry and niche.

It is important that you submit your website to web directories in order to acquire inbound back links and increase traffic to the website from the search engines.

It is a very important link building technique.

Steps involved in submitting to a web directory:

1. Type in the URL of the directory into your browser address bar. You can find a list of free directories to submit to over at lists.qualitysubmissions.com

2. Once youï¾’ve entered the homepage of the web directory, choose the subject most relevant to your website topic. Eg: If your website has informationabout music, you should select the Entertainment > Music subject in the web directory.

3. Once youï¾’ve selected the subject and navigated to the subject page, click on the “submit link” / “submit url” / “add url” link in the top or right hand side sidebar.

4. Once in the submission page, choose the link type / enter the required details including website URL, description, subject and keywords; once done, hit the submit button.

5. You will have to enter an email address while submitting to the web directory, once youï¾’ve completed the directory submission, open up the email id you supplied and click on the confirmation email you get from the directory.

You will get an email from the web directory when your link is approved ï¾– this will help you keep track of your submissions.
